The all new fourth generation Nissan Micra was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. It is going to play very crucial and key role in plans of Nissan for Indian Market. Japan's third largest automaker Nissan Motor Co. said it would begin manufacturing its popular compact car model Micra in Chennai, a step seen as challenging Maruti Suzuki's dominance in the small car market. New Nissan Micra is a excellent combination of newer generation cutting edge technology, exceptional design and advanced features. Developed and built on Nissan’s all-new V-platform, the new Nissan Micra was designed and tested in Japan to be built in at least four overseas locations, and fine-tuned to meet the differing tastes and needs of customers in 160 countries worldwide.

Update: Nissan Micra Diesel Launched

Nissan Motor India today (10th December) launched the diesel variant of its small car Micra priced between Rs 5.85 lakh and Rs 6.34 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). Bookings of Nissan Micra Diesel are open and it is available in two variants - XV & XV Premium. Claimed Fuel Efficiency is 23 kmpl. Customers can book the diesel Micra for an initial booking amount of Rs 50,000 through all 20 Nissan dealerships across India. The company is also aggressively ramping up their sales and service network.


Speaking on the occasion, Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD & CEO, Nissan Motor India says, “The success of petrol variant of Micra in the domestic market has given us huge confidence to introduce diesel variant within six months from the launch of petrol version. We are confident that the diesel-powered Micra would fulfill the discerning needs of Indian Customers.” The Micra diesel will be rolled out from Nissan’s manufacturing plant at Oragadam, near Chennai. In the first five months, Nissan managed to sell 4,500 units of the petrol hatch.

Design & Styling of Nissan Micra Diesel

As seen in lot of renderings the 4th generation model of Micra is completely different from the 3rd generation model. As far as design is concerned the New Nissan Micra Diesel can be termed cute and smart with oval shaped headlamps and small clear lens tail lamps. Retaining its compact dimensions, the new car is slightly longer and marginally lower, while its longer wheelbase enables a ‘wheels-at-each-corner’ stance, the main reason behind the Nissan Micra’s roomier interior. The bonnet is short with a bulge/crease in centre. The front grille has a horizontal chrome strip in centre to give it a more upmarket look. The front bumper of Micra has a large air dam in centre which is flanked by clear lens round shaped fog lights on both sides.

The top model features chrome ring outside the front fog lamps. The rear design of Micra Diesel has been kept quite simple and balanced by Nissan India. It features small clear lens tail lamps with integrated turn indicators and reverse lights. The top of the line Micra Diesel also features Body coloured bumpers, Body coloured door handles, Body coloured outside rear view mirrors, Rear Washer, Rear Wiper, Rear Defogger and Rear Spoiler.

Interiors & Safety Features of Nissan Micra Diesel

Nissan has employed a ‘connected cocoon’ design featuring a dashboard design which takes on a ‘twin bubble’ theme. This refers to the circular instrumentation binnacle and the similarly shaped glovebox compartment on the passenger side. Interiors of Nissan Micra Diesel are quite modern and up to date with all the features which you expect from a car of this class. The top model of Nissan Micra Diesel features Automatic Climate Control System, Power steering, Power windows, Remote central locking, Steering mounted controls, MP3 music system, Single SRS Airbag, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution). The AC vents of Micra Diesel are also circular in shape with chrome outlining and also the door opening handles are circular and chrome finished.

The Nissan Micra Diesel is powered by 1461cc diesel engine which develops maximum power of 64 Bhp with maximum torque of 160 Nm. The engine is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox and claimed fuel efficiency of Nissan Micra Diesel is 23 kmpl.

Mumbai/Chennai: November 8, 2010: Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) today announced the commencement of the booking orders across its 20 dealerships for the diesel variant of Nissan Micra. The Diesel-powered Nissan Micra is expected to go on sale before Christmas this year. The Nissan dealerships across the country have commenced the booking orders for the Diesel variant in a phased manner starting today. A comprehensive multimedia ad campaign (T.V., Radio, Print and Digital) has also been launched to support this activity.

In July this year, Nissan launched the petrol variant of its first made in India global compact car –Nissan Micra (Global compact hatchback), based on the Versatile ‘V’ platform at its factory in Oragadam, Chennai. Since the sales began on July 15, 2010, the company has sold around 4500 units of Micra. With the launch of Micra Diesel, Nissan will add another variant to its product kitty to cater to its Customers’ choice.
