Nissan Sunny, the long awaited mid-size saloon that will be launched in the Indian market - though under a different name - was unveiled in the Indian market on Wednesday. The unveiling ceremony of the new Nissan sedan was held in Mumbai. The car will be launched in the Indian market in October this year.
Speaking to the reporters on the occasion, Nissan Motor India's Managing Director and Chief Executive, Kiminobu Tokuyama said, "We are launching the new saloon Sunny in October to coincide with the festive season. The petrol and diesel variant of the Nissan Sunny will be manufactured at the Renault Nissan alliance Orgadam facility in Chennai."
The Nissan Sunny model was introduced in the world market at the 8th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition in December 2010. The car has been designed at the Nissan Design and Nissan Motor’s Japan based headquarters. Interestingly, while designing the car at its headquarters, the company designers have taken inputs from as many as 170 countries.
Besides China and India, the car will be sold in a number of world countries in coming years. It is to be mentioned here that the Nissan Sunny is based on company’s proven V- (Versatile) platform that has already been used for developing its Micra model.
Though the company is yet to reveal the pricing and specification details of this car for the Indian market, the car is expected to be launched in the price segment of Rs 7 to 8 lakh, where it will be competing with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Honda City and Toyota Etios
